Jogen Chowdhury (b.1939) was born in Daharpara Village, Faridpur (present-day Bangladesh). He enrolled himself at the Government College of Art and Craft, Calcutta (present-day Kolkata) and subsequently studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He is known for his use of intricate lines to depict distorted characters, allowing himself to express in an environment of political unrest.
His recent exhibitions include 'A Calligraphy of Touch and Gaze' hosted at ICIA in Mumbai by Kalakriti Art Gallery and 'Abahoman: Flowing Life' at the Vadehra Art Gallery in New Delhi. Chowdhury joined Kala Bhavan in Santiniketan as a professor of painting in 1987. In 2001, he was awarded the Kalidas Samman by the Government of Madhya Pradesh. He continues to live and work in Santiniketan.
